The Resort  (home)

Grindelwald is situated in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. It lies within a beautiful and imposing range of classic Swiss mountain scenery, with high peaks, sheer valleys and cool lakes, and is known for the giant triple peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Grindelwald, ‘the glacier village’, is spread across a series of long sunny terraces and lies between the soaring north face of the Eiger and the Wetterhorn.  Grindelwald is the only great mountain resort in the Jungfrau area which can be reached by car.

As the good ski guide says, "there are few more cosmopolitan resorts to be found in the world". Much of its popularity is due to the long, cruising runs set amidst beautiful scenery. However, there are also plenty of opportunities for the more adventurous such as the famous Lauberhorn World Cup race course which, at 2.5km, is the longest in the world. There is also plenty of easily accessible off-piste skiing and the Grindelwald Bergsteigerzentrum is one of the most famous guiding establishments in the world.

Ski pass

Grindelwald shares a ski pass with Wengen which covers over 45 lifts with 213Km of skiing. Wengen and Grindelwald ski areas are linked by a circuit of lifts and cog railways. There are nursery slopes right beside the village and access to the 'First' and Männlichen ski areas are direct from the village. There is a large terrain park with a half pipe and a board cross course. Only ski passes for 10 days and over require a photo (which can be scanned from your passport) You can get lift-pass prices from www.jungfrauwinter.ch , click here for the local snow report and here for the jungfrau region piste mapThe Swiss Ski and Mountaineering school offer dedicated courses in off-piste and freeride skiing, park & pipe training, ski and snowshoeing tours in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage as well as ice-climbing courses.

For several years we have been working very successfully with Buri Sports to provide you with any ski, snowboard or boot hire and to provide any private professional ski or snowboard instruction needs. Our guests enjoy a 10% discount on equipment hire - just tell them if you are staying at chalet Alpstein. You can also ask Alex or Ros for more details. You can also book directly through us for single or group lessons.

Children are well catered for, the Nursery Murmeli at First (0041(0)77 414 9108) and the Nursery Mannlichen (0041 (0)33 853 0440) will look after children from 4 weeks old to 8 years, and will even collect and return your child at the end of the day. Snowli Kids Club will teach them to ski from CHF20 per session.

Sports Centre
The sports centre is right next door to the chalet and has a large swimming pool, sauna complex with a ‘wellness’ centre  and ice skating and curling rinks.

For a great Paragliding experience we recommend experience we recommend Chilloutparagliding run by ex-paragliding world champion and test pilot Kari Eisenhut and Meteo expert and instructor Micha Schultze.  A friendly atmosphere and the safest pilots in the business.

Restaurants
There are numerous restaurants in the village serving everything from pizza and rosti to fondue and Raclette as well as more contemporary establishments to suit all palates and pockets. There are two discos, the Plaza and Mescalero, with music and dancing till 3am. The Rancher Bar does the best Kafee mit schnapps in town, after a medium sized one you'll think you ski much better.

Self-catering
The local Co-op supermarket (100m away) is surprisingly large and well stocked. There is also a delicatessen, Jametti Gourmet, just 20m down the hill from the Co-op, has longer hours and may still be open for that forgotten pint of milk. Landi, in the bottom of the valley, is the local farm-supplies shop and can sell you anything from local milk and farm eggs to snow chains and Christmas trees (plus everything you might need for keeping cows).

And finally...
We are here to help you have an enjoyable stay, so if there is any way we can be of help before, during or after your stay, you only have to ask.
